Mission Housing
Our Bunkhouse
Formerly, the Our Bunkhouse mission house served missionaries from around the world. Our facility provided free housing for Christian missionaries for when they came back to the states for training, medical, family needs, or just a vacation to ensure their rest, recovery and readiness for service in their global mission field.
The Powells
The Powell’s hosted missionaries from over 18 countries worldwide. The name “Our Bunkhouse” was given because of the Western/American look the Powell’s gave it when they first remodeled the house.
Today the Powell’s give to the missionaries through their Outreach Realty ministry.

Our family of 5 was taking a trip to the New England states to visit with some of our supporters. Along the way we were staying with friends and others who are so kind to provide housing to M’s. We found the Bunkhouse online and reached out. The Powell’s were so amazing and their hospitality blessed our hearts. We were only there 1 night but we enjoyed great fellowship, the wild deer in the backyard, and some great home cooking! We even got to choose our favorite soda for supper. That’s a big deal when you live in Southeast Asia!! Thanks again and God Bless!!

The Powell’s missionary home is a wonderful place to recharge your missionary batteries, rest and reflect. The Bunkhouse is comfortable, the setting among an oak grove is spectacular and the Powell’s are wonderful hosts. It is close to many historically significant sites and the ocean.
We were there during the Covid shutdown. It was a haven of rest for us. We went to the ocean and several historical sites and especially enjoyed breakfast with the Powell’s and watching their dogs, the deer and birds. It is a great place with great people.

We work with a Christian relief agency called Send Relief. We help churches throughout Central Asia serve their community with community development projects. Staying at the Powell’s bunkhouse was such a wonderful retreat for us! Set in the woods and having deer in the yard daily was such a relaxing sight. The living space was comfortable and had all that you would need. The Powells are very friendly and welcoming. We highly recommend staying here.

We’ve enjoyed our stateside stay at the bunkhouse so much, we returned the following year for a month’s vacation. The bunkhouse is nestled in among the trees with beautiful views out every window. We enjoyed watching the deer come and eat in the backyard every night and the sparkle of the water glimmering through the trees in the distance. Mark and Jan are welcoming and hospitable hosts who want to make sure your stay is enjoyable. We plan on returning again to have a restful retreat and recharge our batteries as we face the challenges and joys of life overseas.
South Korea
My family spent our last two weeks in the US at The Bunkhouse before going overseas to serve long-term in South Korea. We had spent months feeling like we had nowhere to breathe and feel planted. We had sold most of our possessions and had been living with family, in hotels, and at a training center for months. After completing our training program we needed to find a place to stay for a few weeks while we waited for visas and tickets to arrive. Thankfully, we were put in touch with Mark and Jan. Our stay at the bunkhouse was a wonderful opportunity to slow down and spend time focusing on ourselves. Not having to pack and unpack in hotels, or worry about staying out of the way as a guest in someone’s house was an amazing blessing. Powell’s servant’s heart and care for us really showed through. Our son still talks about feeding the chickens, gathering eggs, and seeing the deer out the kitchen window. It felt like home, something we had not felt for months. We look forward to being able to stay at the Bunkhouse again!

Mark and Jan were amazing hosts. The bunkhouse was such a blessing to our family with the wonderful kitchen, laundry facilities and spacious rooms. The house felt warm and welcoming as we enjoyed the beautiful natural surroundings. We even enjoyed seeing the deer in the early morning. We took advantage of the walking trails and thoroughly enjoyed being outside as much as possible. We so appreciate the Powells’ heart to serve others by opening up their home. We are so thankful for the time that we were able to stay at the bunkhouse. It was a very special blessing to our family. We served at an International Christian School, in Ethiopia, where we shared truth and built relationships with students from 30+ countries.

I would like to take a moment to share what a wonderful experience I had during my time at the Bunkhouse. I suddenly found myself in need of a place to stay for a few weeks when making an unexpected transition. The Lord used the beautiful environment and calm house to bring peace to my heart during a season of transition. It was a place in which I was able to find rest and meet with the Lord surrounded by the beauty of creation. I especially enjoyed watching the deer, squirrels, and birds that came wandering through the yard daily. If you are looking for a place to get away and find rest in the Lord during your US stay, the Bunkhouse is a wonderful place to go.
